These courses are tailor-made for you

Classes are tailored for you. A $10.00 per session fee includes instruction and materials. Parking can be arranged for $4.00 per day. Call the Center for reservations or if you have any questions. Class space is limited to 18 participants. Classes are taught on Windows PC computers. However, Mac uses are welcome as the differences, as they apply to the coursework, are explained in each session.

Genealogy 101—How to Research Your Family History Online (two sessions)

March 25 and 27, 9:15am-Noon

This class will cover the basic principles of online genealogy as well as how to use free resources on the Internet to help you begin and/or expand your family tree. You will learn to unearth and decipher pockets of information nestled in the most surprising places. Bring your questions and family history!
Prerequisite: Must be comfortable using the computer to browse the Internet.

Microsoft Word –Beyond the Basics (two sessions)

Tuesday, April 1 and Thursday April 3, 9:15am-Noon

This class will take you beyond an introduction to this popular program. The class will help you improve your skills in editing and page layout, as well as give you an introduction to the tools needed to use Excel to create mailing lists (“mail merge”).
Prerequisite: Completion of the Center’s Advanced Basics Class

Web 1.0– Internet Basics (two sessions)

Summer 2008

This class is designed to help you with the basics of the Internet, including how to use browsers and search engines, the tools used to navigate and find information on the web. This class also includes basic web security information.
Prerequisite: Ability to use the mouse and keyboard.

Web 2.0– Internet Basics (two sessions)

Summer 2008

This class is designed to help you get beyond the basics, including exposure to intermediate level search skills and the use of Web 2.0 sites (customized information sites, some web-based email, shared bookmark and news sites, and social networking sites). Prerequisite: Completion of the Center’s Web 1.0 class

This interactive session conduced by The Scholar's Workstation will introduce you to the major issues involved in buying computers and other digital gear, including Windows PCs and Macintosh (Mac), podcasting, digital cameras, printers, storage devices and more.
