As early as 1999, the Retirement Center recognized a need for a comprehensive program to assist active faculty and staff at the UC Berkeley campus with the process of planning for retirement. The PRP program aims to help attendees plan and implement a successful strategy for their next phase -- a phase described not as retirement from life but rather a time to refocus energy, talents and interests on activities that contribute to a meaningful and valuable life. PRP is ideal for, and enrollment priority is provided to, employees retiring in one to five years.
Traditionally, pre-retirement planning programs emphasized the employee benefits and personal financial factors affecting one's retirement planning. The Center presents a dynamic and collaborative PRP that not only addresses these important issues, but also goes beyond them to actively and creatively transform the retirement planning experience.
With expert faculty, PRP has six discrete modules that complement and build upon each other; all modules are applicable to both academic and non-academic employees and are continually updated.
The modules are described below. PRP is open to active faculty and staff from UC Berkeley and the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. The spring 2013 schedule is noted below.
Please note: priority is given to registrants who can attend all sessions. Those on the wait list will be registered as space allows.

What is PRP?
PRP is a comprehensive six-class series of educational seminars led by expert faculty, staff, and representatives from retirement-focused organizations to assist active faculty and staff in planning for retirement. Seminars will take place Friday afternoons from 2-5pm. This program is free of charge to active faculty and staff of UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
Who should attend?
PRP is optimal for those planning to retire in five years, but is valuable to anyone expecting to do so in the next one-to-five years. The program is also appropriate for those who have less certain plans, as the workshops help identify resources and actions that aid in creating a plan.
